J.L
J.L

J.L’s musical inspirations spiralled from his early introduction to music at home and his primary school music instructor that exposed him to music greats such as Sam Cooke, Maxi Priest, and Barrington Levy. His soothing gentle vocals represent what he has captured from Sam Cooke: his emotive performing style from Maxi Priest and melodic style from Barrington Levy. As he developed as a performer, J.L credits his slick and sharp movements while performing, to Michael Jackson’s influence on his childhood. With an unflagging passion for reggae music, J.L also looks up to other influences such as: Tarrus Riley, Chronixx and Wanye Wonder.

As a developing artist, many individuals have assisted in shaping J.L into a budding musical sensation. As early as age twelve (12) J.L was privileged to work with Grammy winning producer Steven Stewart. Fast forward to present times; J.L is now surrounded by Grammy winning duo, Sly Dunbar and Robbie Shakespeare under Taxi records. His vocal coach Marjorie Whylie also assisting in his appreciation of traditional techniques in producing melodies which can be seen in his singing style.

This self proclaimed ‘Grammy boy’ is on a journey; his goal being to receive an individual Grammy. In 2016, J.L received his first Grammy nomination manifesting one of his childhood ambitions. This nomination was for the album ‘Sly and Robbie presents…Reggae For Her’ which features musical legends Sly and Robbie, Devin Di Dakta and J.L. His catchy hooks and melodies prove that the sky is the limit for this upcoming artist who promises good music drenched in real life experiences and vibrant live entertainment.
